24/7 DIARY ENTRY

Dear Diary
January 25
I'm really tempted to drop another Noosie on DrugEmporium.com.  The order that I placed last Wednesday (Jan. 19) with next day delivery arrived today (your math is fine, no misprint here).  It was delivered, however, across the street.  I had to carry this heavy box back to my house after I finished shoveling out from under ten inches of snow.  Now you understand why I am thinking double noosie.  In fairness, given the disaggregated nature of fulfillment in e-commerce -- particularly delivery -- it may be unfair to place blame on DrugEmporium.com.  Competing in the information age, however, requires more careful attention to consumers' perceptions and thoughts (get it? information swirls in peoples minds and is the basis of perception formation).  I suspect that many consumers (e.g., mass market) would not disaggregate DrugEmporium.com and UPS (the delivery service hired/used by DrugEmporium.com) and would therefore give their equivalent of a Noosie to DrugEmporium.com.

I'll go open the box and see how they did in their packing.  I'm back.  All items ordered were inside the box; that's good.  They did use air bubbles to cushion the items during transit.  One two-pack of Energizer lithium photo batteries, however, burst open and the two batteries were wandering around the box.  Some freebies were also inside the box.  The Huggies brand wipes were frozen blocks after sitting outside for hours in the freezing weather -- for the record, someone was home all day at our house and would have brought the box in promptly.  Oh DrugEmporium.com, you confuse me.  I love your selection and coupons; your fulfillment, on the other hand, drives me a little batty.

By the way, DrugEmporium.com has not yet replied to my email.  I don't know if this is due to either their ineptitude or misjudgment.

I have been looking to reorganize my office at home and I am thinking about some metro shelving items (or similar items from a competitor -- e.g., Nexel, which is really Superior Shelving?).  I visited Superior Shelving in Tacoma, Washington and put together an order for an estimate.  For about $250, including shipping, I can get a pretty good stash of shelving.  I'll check out some other vendors and then put in an order soon.  My office needs an Oprah makeover.

Rumor has it that WBUR/NPR's "World of Ideas" 90.9 FM radio show hosted by Ted O'Brien will have some very interesting panelists discussing advertising on Super Bowl Sunday (Jan.30) at 9:00 pm EST. (half time). :-)
