| Diaper diaper, gonna get gonna get, some, diaper
diaper. I was cruising around looking for some fitness equipment
when I thought of the Village People (I could not link this site so that
one would be able to get back here by simply clicking on "back," so here
is the URL -- http://www.villagepeople-official.com) as in "body body,
got to work, got to work this body body, got to work, this body"-- I've
been unable to run for quite some time due to achilles tendon and plantar
fascia pain and it's time to do something to get in shape. I'm leaning
toward getting a 110 pound free weight set from MVP.com.
A reporter/writer from Business 2.0
called me recently and was asking me some questions about MVP.com and its
prospects for success. I had been thinking about getting a small
free weight set for a few years and this interview just might get me off
the shnie (spelling?). I'm not looking to be an iron pumping athlete,
which I was back in my track and field days (e.g., with free weights while
in my top competitive shape, I could bench press 250 pounds for eight reps
after working my way up, military press 200 pounds and squat over 400 pounds);
I just want to build some flexibility and some general strength and minimize
the deterioration of my muscle mass caused by the aging process.
Anyway, as I'm thinking about this purchase, a more important purchase came to mind. I did not want to get caught short on diapers for Kate (the boys prefer to say Katherine), so I went shopping for some diapers. e-centives sent me a 25% off on a $100+ purchase incentive for NetGrocer; I also had a coupon code for $20 off of a $50+ purchase from DrugEmporium.com, a $15 off of a $30+ purchase from CVS.com and a "get a $25 gift certificate for offline stores and restaurants" with a $25+ purchase from More.com (all found at deal-finder.com). For a reliable order, I considered DrugEmporium.com and Netgrocer.com. DE offered the best value and I was confident that the order would arrive in a timely enough manner (that's a surprise, no?); in addition, Amy did not want $100+ of diapers in any closet in our house. I decided to place an order with DE. I ordered 240 diapers (the limit of 6 packages of 40 diapers each) and one set of audio ear phones. (I use the ear phones when I go to sleep at night as I like to listen to the radio when I fall asleep, whereas Amy prefers to not hear the radio when she is falling asleep. I started using the ear phones just after Ben was born; that was when I discovered late night sports broadcaster J.T. The Brick) I then considered placing an order with More.com.
I have never used them before and I was curious about them. I was
a little turned off by their proclaimed discounting on diapers, which was
not discounting as far as I could tell. For example, their selling
price for a 40 count bag of Pampers
baby-dry size 1 diapers was listed as $8.19; above this price was listed
Later on, I did check their "crossed out" and selling prices for photographic film, deodorant and toothpaste and found them to be inline with regular and discounted prices that I have seen at other merchant sites (e.g, Old Spice High Endurance deodorant in 2.25 oz. size with a "crossed-out" price of $2.49 and a selling price of $1.99, Colgate Total Anticavity & Antigingivitis Fluoride Toothpaste in 7.8 oz. size with a "crossed-out" price of $3.66 and a selling price of $2.79). It is conceivable that an error is listed for diapers. The damage had already been done, however, with respect to my diaper purchase as it made me suspect about their service (even though the management staff looks really good and the coupon was tempting); maybe it was just a bad first impression? Surprisingly, I decided to give CVS a shot on the diapers. I gave DrugEmporium.com another chance, so why not CVS I figured. Their site claims delivery in 2-5 days. I ordered 160 diapers and a 7.8 ounce size of Colgate Total toothpaste. The toothpaste was priced higher at CVS, $2.93, than at More.com, and I had to pay for shipping ($3.68), whereas shipping would have been free at More.com on orders over $20 (which was the case with this order). I hope that CVS has improved its fulfillment. I am not yet comfortable enough to place an order with CVS for items that I would require in a timely manner (if this delivery does not show up for 10 days or so, I will absolutely survive, and it would take another "great deal" coupon for me to consider ordering from them again). The deal contributed to my trying out again a merchant that I liked offline, but found less than satisfying online. |
