24/7 DIARY ENTRY

Dear Diary
July 11
Thank you eToys.  How did you know?  eToys informed me via email that two items from my order -- the Swimming Champion Barbie Doll and the Peaceful Planet: Lights & Sounds Aquarium -- had shipped, and that the delivery service was upgraded to USPS Priority Mail from standard grade.  This is key as it guarantees -- well, as guaranteed as things can get -- that Amy will have the Barbie Doll item in time for the birthday party that she and Sam will attend next week (see July 9, order was placed yesterday on July 10).  It is as if they knew that I absolutely had to have these items somewhat soon or else I would be in deep, uh, hmm, well, you know what I mean.  I suspect, however, that the items would have arrived on time with standard grade shipping service.  Still, I was relieved to know with certainty that the items will get here on time and it felt good to report this to Amy.  Mission accomplished.  A hearty woohoo to eToys on my first order with them.  The more that I think about this, a hearty Brucie to eToys.  A woohoo is nice, but that and a quarter won't get you a cup of coffee these days.

I finally heard back from Clair Honda -- this time from a different Internet salesperson.  This person is on the ball.  He explained clearly the procedure for ordering a Honda  Odyssey and detailed the market situation of demand exceeding supply -- which is true for the moment -- and that they are pricing all Odyssey models at MSRP with an  expected wait of anywhere from 2-5 months (depending on the model).  He added that Clair will include floor mats and mud guards at no additional charge (according to him, a $300 value).

I replied to this email asking about home visits and changes for the 2001 model year.  The salesperson sent a prompt reply explaining that "demo" units are not available for the Odyssey because each one is pre-sold or reserved for someone.  This makes some sense for a high demand vehicle as many consumers would likely ask to buy the demo unit were one to exist.  A consumer on the waiting list might get annoyed were one to be used as a demo because it could just as easily become their vehicle.  As it is, dealers are, for the most part, selling every Odyssey before they come in.  Some dealers who are trying to sell the Odyssey significantly above "sticker price" (i.e., MSRP) have some sitting on their lots.

The salesperson also answered my other question by letting me know that he was not aware of any major changes and that there would be some improvements made.  He added that the exterior color blue will no longer be available and that two exterior colors will either be changed or modified; and he expects a price increase of 1% on MSRP.  See, that's not so hard.  Simple questions, simple answers, no game playing.  Clair is absolutely in the running for our business should we elect to get a Honda Odyssey (oh, the same can be said should we elect to get a Toyota Sienna).

I am not making any general evaluations about Clair Honda.  I am only commenting on what I have experienced thus far.  I have not purchased the vehicle from them and obviously I have not had any post purchase experiences with them.  In addition, I am unaware of any Odyssey buyer's experience with Clair Honda.
