| Luis Castillo and all of his glorious 9 rbi were mentioned in today's
Sunday New York Times. Murray
Chass wrote a splendid article about the Florida Marlins titled "Marlins
Rise From Ashes to Unexpected .500 Level." About half-way through
the article, Mr. Chass writes "Luis Castillo has become the catalyst of
the offense, holding the National League's third-highest batting average,
.352, the third-highest on-base percentage, .437, and the most stolen bases,
47. He has driven in only nine runs, but the last third of the Marlins'
lineup does not give the second baseman many R.B.I. opportunities."
In an era when McGwire,
Sosa
and Griffey
are receiving most of the attention for their offensive exploits, it is
delightful to see Luis, who has been operating in a stealth mode, getting
some well deserved credit for not only his league leading performance in
certain batting categories, but also his potentially major league record
breaking least performance in the rbi category.
We took the boys -- Kate came too -- out to McDonalds
for lunch today where they got the latest toy with their happy meal --
Beast
Machines. After lunch, Amy took the boys in the car to K.B. Toys
and I walked Kate up the street in the stroller in the direction of the
toy store. Shortly after I got there, the boys emerged with their
selections. Ben got a mini Voltron
and Sam got a T-Rex
dinosaur -- both on sale; according to Amy, the guys never made it past
the discount sections in the front of the store. Amy let me know
with a smile that Batman figures
were on sale -- buy one Batman figure for $7.99 and get a second Batman
figure for $0.01. Is my wife terrific or what? Ok, my knees
did get a little wobbly. Gee, I wonder if I went to KBkids.com
when I got home? (I'm not saying that I did, but rumor has it that
this sale was not in effect at the online KBkids.com.)
