24/7 DIARY ENTRY

Dear Diary
August 18
Madge, could you please sign this block party petition and tell me everything.  I went across the street to my neighbors house today to ask them to sign the block party petition (see August 15).  It wasn't long before I spryly queried, "what have you been building as I have noticed a major flurry of deliveries over the last few weeks?"  They told me what they had been purchasing and they showed me some of the products; I was fascinated.  I then asked, "so, did you shop online or use a catalog when making these purchases?"  He shops online -- one of his favorite sites is Bookfinder.com; she loves catalogs -- she totally trusts L.L. Bean.  They love to shop and I am telling you -- and I told them -- that they would be great to interview (I know a Harvard Business School Professor, Susan Fournier, who studies the relationships that consumers have with brands and products and I believe that Susan and my neighbors should talk).

Oh, I forgot to mention that I ordered a 2001 Honda Odyssey EX today.  Ironic that on this day in history, carOrder.com has decided to suspend its "retail Web site activities as of today, August 18, 2000 in order to execute on our mission to leverage cutting-edge technology in the operation of dealerships." The website also reports "We are not accepting new orders at the present time.  If you have already placed an order with carOrder.com, you will be notified via email as to the status of that order.  Thank you for your interest in carOrder.com.  For more information, please contact us at 1.888.657.2277 or questions@carOrder.com."  I almost ordered an Odyssey from them when a Vice President from Trilogy software -- the owner of carOrder.com -- visited and participated in my ecommerce and marketing class during the Spring 2000 semester.

Amy purchased gas for $1.729 per gallon at our preferred discount gas station because the gas tank warning light was on.  I knew the light was on, however, the needle was not on "E" (for empty), so there was nothing to fear.  I was planning to purchase gasoline at the Texaco station with my Priceline gas card, however, the day went by quickly as I ended up having conversations with every neighbor that I asked to sign the block party petition.  I figured that I would get gas tomorrow (Saturday); I was denied.  At least I found out the price for premium grade fuel at the discount gas station.

Earlier in the week, Amy had returned some items for exchange to Hanna Anderson -- these items were sent to us by Marilyn, Amy's mom.. The new items arrived today.  Wow, that was lightening fast.

The Homeruns delivery was excellent this time around (see August 12 for experience just prior to this).  My order was delivered well before the end of the delivery time period and the delivery person was friendly.  We even chatted about the weather for a bit.

Luis Castillo RBI Watch (Through August 18, 2000)

Number of Hits......Batting Average......Number of RBI......Runs Scored
......137.......................357............................9........................78

Luis went 0-3 as the Marlins outslugged the Colorado Rockies 9-8.  He leadoff in the first inning with a ground out to the second baseman.  In the second inning with one out and no one on, he grounded out to the pitcher.  With men on first and second with two out, Luis grounded out to the pitcher.  He walked in the fifth inning with the bases empty and two outs.  In the eighth inning with no one out and a man on second, he sacrificed the runner over to third base (These data are obtained from ESPN.com.)
