Dear Diary
August 23
Our electricity went out fifteen minutes into the Survivor finale.  Amy and I could not believe it.  The power was restored at 10:15pm.  Too bad Survivor was on from 8:00pm - 10:00pm.  We had everything planned beautifully.  The kids were in bed and asleep by 7:45pm and I was going to submit a Homeruns order after the show.  Hey Lenny, so much for the best laid plans of mice and men.  Fortunately, we kept our wits enough to call some friends and family to fire up their VCRs and tape the show for us.  I'm kicking myself for not getting that power generator from Amazon.com.  (And no, I do not believe that Boston Edison deserves a Noosie; it was raining heavily outside and who knows what caused the outage.)

When the power came back on, after the show had ended, I was in no mood to start the computer and place a Homeruns order as Amy and I had been looking forward to watching the show and we had planned and executed almost everything beautifully so that we could watch the finale in its entirety; sorry about that Homeruns -- cheer up, it's not the end of the world for either one of us.  I'll likely place the order tomorrow.  Oh, Survivor, you hath pierced pierced my soul.

Amy and I would probably have never even watched the first Survivor episode had Marilyn, Amy's mom and my MIL (mother in law) not been in town and informed us that she had to watch it because a high school classmate of hers, B.B., was on the show.  Slowly but surely we got sucked in to this show that has been edited and crafted into a fine soap opera with mystery, deceit, greed, naiveté, beauty, love, sadness, good, evil, some twists and turns, and money.  I sometimes felt like shouting to some of the characters, "quick get out of the jungle and go hear what Richard is saying over on that corner of the beach...no, no, don't sell Sue that...can't you see the pattern?...."  Incidentally, Amy went into labor with Katherine at about 11:00pm on May 31, only an hour or two after the US television premier of Survivor.

I learned that Amazon.com will be selling cars in an alliance with Greenlight.com.  Coincidentally, someone in one of the Edmunds.com Townhall forums had asked about buying a Honda Odyssey through Greenlight and I responded, on Saturday (August 19), "I am familiar with their executive team and they are absolutely first rate; My estimation is that their service would be fine."  I should have added that I'm not sure whether they are more like Pagong or Tagi.
