24/7 DIARY ENTRY

Dear Diary
August 30
My order from OurHouse.com arrived this afternoon.  It is refreshing to discover another online business where "next day" shipping means the order will arrive on literally the next day after the order has been placed (another firm that does this is Outpost.com -- in fact, Outpost.com, like Kozmo.com, now offers a "same day" shipping option).  UPS pulled up to my house at around 4:00pm (see photo) and delivered my tub drain equipment from OurHouse and two books from Amazon.com (which were never reported as being shipped by Amazon, though I did receive an email today from Amazon which informed me that the chimney starter had just shipped).  I will install the tub drain pipes tomorrow.  OurHouse gets a Brucie today and I get to install a tub drain tomorrow.

My Homeruns order arrived in the first half of the delivery time period and all of the items were placed on the kitchen counter -- yeah.  On the way out the door, the delivery person noticed an 8x10 photo of Buck O'Neil and myself, which was taken while I was at the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum celebrating the birthday of Laura Hockaday, who wrote for many years the "Society" column for the Kansas City Star.  At first, he was not sure who the person was, but he commented that the person looked familiar.  After I told him that it was Buck O'Neil, we talked about some of the great players that Buck must have played with or against, Cool Papa Bell, Satchel Paige, Turkey Stearnes, Josh Gibson, Buck Leonard, Oscar Charleston, etc.

Luis Castillo RBI Watch (Through August 30, 2000)

Number of Hits......Batting Average......Number of RBI......Runs Scored
......150.......................350............................10........................80

Luis went 2-5 as the Marlins  lost to the St. Louis Cardinals by a score of 4-2.  Luis leadoff the first inning by grounding out to the shortstop; in the third inning, with a man on second and no one out, he advanced the runner along to third with a bunt single.  He struck out swinging with no one base and one out in the fifth inning.  He leadoff the seventh inning by striking out looking.  In the ninth inning with two out and the bases empty, Luis hit a single to center field.  (These data are obtained from ESPN.com.)
