| I'm closing in on a printer purchase. I used Cnet
for initial information search and price checking. I've decided to
get a Hewlett Packard product. I
visited HP's website to investigate some of the specifications of the following
models: the 970C (their latest color inkjet), the 4050 (their latest small
business laserjet), and the R-80 (an all-in-one unit -- i.e., color printer,
fax, scanner, copier). In addition, I called HP product information
to discuss the three products that I am considering. I found the
person at the other end of the line to be extremely helpful.
I was surprised to find that Cnet was not the best place for printer shopping in my case; they did not have the 4050 unit in their database (they did have the older 4000 model). PCmagazine, through computershopper, offered up some good price comparisons. For the 4050 laser printer, the range in price was from $829 - $1206.99. I question the credibility of the vendors who priced at $829 and $838 (in fact, the website of the vendor offering the product at $838 can no longer be found). Onvia.com, with a price of $979.98, with free shipping is the front runner, just besting OnSale.com, which prices the 4050 at $979.99 (their shipping policy is excellent as well, either $4.95 or $8.95). I was surprised to see that Buy.com was at $1029.95. Incidentally both Onvia and OnSale claim that the product is in stock. In addition, HP has a promotion "deal of the century" going on at the moment for the 4050. A freebie I could get is a duplex unit (part # C4123A), for printing on both sides of a sheet of paper (very cool). Incidentally, HP's direct price was $1099.00. I feel a printer purchase coming on this weekend I was cruising some toy websites today during lunch. For some reason, the websites were sluggish; in fact, Amazon was down. Lots of shoppers? Time to buy stock in eToys, ToysRus (free shipping until Dec. 1 on all orders, and Batman figures are 20% off), Amazon or kbkids (also good discounts on certain Batman figures)? (We know that the Internet Naysayer, or as he prefers to be known, the Internet Apologist, would recommend no stock buys until the share prices hit $5). In the middle of my ToysRus shopping, either their website or my browser had a problem and I lost everything. I haven't redone my order yet. |
