| "Stick and move" on two video orders today from Buy.com.
As I mentioned in my November 21 diary entry,
Marilyn (my MIL) asked me to order online for her a copy of Batman -- the
1966 camp version starring Adam West as Batman ("a life of crime does not
pay"), Burt Ward as Robin ("holy good deal Batman"), Burgess Meredith as
The Penguin ("wah wah wah"), Frank Gorshin as The Riddler ("what has four
legs, never walks and yet is the swiftest in travel?"), Cesar Romero as
The Joker ("ooh ha ha ha"), and Lee Meriwether as The Catwoman ("Batman,
you are simply perrrrfect, meow"). I perused the video-selling websites
that I listed on November 20 and looked
for the best deal in price, shipping, and delivery date. After the
Aladdin video search experience, I surprised myself by placing an order
with Buy.com. The Batman Movie video price was $9.99, shipping will
be free (promotion alert: free shipping on most items ordered from
Buy.com through Sunday, November 28), and they will ship the item in 1-2
weeks (which is fine as Marilyn does not the video until the end of December).
The item will ship directly to Marilyn in Kansas.
On one of my first clicks at Buy.com, I noticed that Disney's Iron Giant was just released and on sale for $14.49. The Iron Giant was the first motion picture that Ben and I had viewed together (his first movie, with his mom, was Disney's Tarzan). He enjoyed it and his little brother Sam (my other son), though having never seen it, quickly picked up the key lines (e.g., "Hogarth" said in a raspy voice), and I knew that he would enjoy it as well. I'm not wild about the violence at the end of the movie (alas, true of many Disney videos); I am not, however, the type to buy them Barney or Mr. Rogers videos (though I have absolutely nothing against them :-) ). I placed the order and the item will ship in 1-2 days; this was definitely an impulse purchase. I felt like shopping more in the evening as "science" never rests.. With Thanksgiving dinner for fifteen people scheduled to be at our house, however, I decided to go for the good night's rest and postpone more shopping until later. Good luck to everyone gearing up for your bricks-and-mortar visits starting on Friday. (Truth be told, last year, I started shopping at 6:00 am on the day after Thanksgiving just to see what it was like; similarly, on one occasion, I turned in my tax returns just before midnight at the IRS on April 15 to see what that experience would be like. I did get on the television news during my tax return submission. Otherwise, no big whoop. Nothing worthwhile being missed by not shopping in stores on either the day after Thanksgiving or any other "holiday" shopping day.) |
