24/7 DIARY ENTRY

Dear Diary
September 25
The bloom is off the rose.  I purchased groceries from Homeruns again, and I wasn't able to get everything exactly as I wanted.  My wife gave me a list of items to purchase (funny, this is how it was before I did my grocery shopping online).  Some items were unavailable (e.g., Fresh Samantha Lemonade -- ooh, I love that elixir), unavailable in the brand desired (e.g., Near East wild rice -- no link provided for http://www.neareast.com, because "back" button will not get you back to this website) or unavailable in the size desired (e.g., we wanted 3 yukon gold potatoes, but, only a 5 lb. size was offered).  In addition, the pizza dough that I purchased last time was not up to my quality standards (I am particular about my pizza -- I love Pepes Pizza in New Haven, CT; outside of Pepes, I believe that I make the best pizza around).  Homeruns does offer the double your money back guarantee to keep customers satisfied.  Finally, the delivery person tracked some mud into the kitchen.

This weekend, the Jewish holiday Sukkot began.  With one of our friends on our street, we had decided to build a sukkah.  The price of the kit at the local Israeli bookshop was $350; this was a bit outrageous.  Were I able to visit Home Depot, I would have purchased the necessary items and been "good to go" for less than $34.99.  Given the timing, a delivery would have been too late; and I can't go to stores (smile).  What's a sukkah builder to do?  Good old fashioned ingenuity (and a little bit of sweat) was a cure for this problem.  Some home construction had been going on at another neighbor's house; some fallen trees were still sitting in the rear of their backyard (and they were happy when I took them away).  I cut up these trees and made a wonderful sukkah frame.  Some friends came over and a good time was had by all.
